The buzz: Vernetta started her career at the age of 4 with Hollywood's Meglin Kiddies, who performed in stage shows and movies in the 1930s and 1940s. She's choreographed for Bob Hope and Carol Channing, and celebs from “Dancing With the Stars” use her studio as a rehearsal space when they're in town for a promotional event.
She says: “My youngest student is 2. My oldest is 80.”
Vernetta's Dance Studio is San Diego's longest running dance studio, owned and operated by the same person! Vernetta, the first and only owner, established the studio in 1962 and is a San Diego legend having worked with countless students and professionals, including celebrities such as Bob Hope, Regis Philbin and more!
Vernetta has seen many San Diego dance studios come and go over the decades. New owners take over spaces, and move on in a few years. Vernetta is proud to be a San Diego staple. She is a native Southern Californian and has worked here all her life.
She is thrilled to base her business in North Park, one of San Diego's most beautiful, vibrant and historic districts.
North Park News has awarded Vernetta's Dance Studio the Best Dance Studio in North Park award since 2003. We have received this honor for the last five years straight! Come by and see why students and critics, alike, think Vernetta's Dance Studio is the best dance studio in North Park.
The North Park News mission is two-fold. First, they research, write, print and distribute the most important local business news to the largest business/professional audience in North Park. In addition to breaking news, the focus is on successful business, real estate, legal, professional, financial, economic and civic affairs that provide insight and encouragement for San Diegans interested in stimulating greater productivity, employment and wealth.
We are honored to be a part of the vibrant North Park community.
When the "Dancing with the Stars" couples have a promo in San Diego they rehearse at Vernetta's Dance Studio. Vernetta has also been a guest of the show and can be seen in the television audience rooting on her favorite dancers. This spring saw international film star Cristián de la Fuente and professional dancer Cheryl Burke in the space. You never know who you might see doing a Latin or Ballroom routine at the studio!
Dancing with the Stars pairs celebrities and professional dancers. They perform choreographed routines which are judged by a panel of dance experts and then voted on by the viewing public. The scores are combined and the outcome is announced during a results show televised on Tuesdays, with one couple being eliminated each week. The show is hosted by Tom Bergeron; the judges are Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman. It airs on ABC.
